FAQ

Answers to your frequently asked questions

What is the purpose of this program?

First and foremost, we want you to be the healthiest version of yourself, or at least be aware of those areas that put you at risk of not having a long and healthy life.  As healthcare gets increasingly challenging to access and care that aims to prevent disease is essentially non-existent, we aim to equip you with the knowledge to have a certain level of control over your healthcare and know what to do, where to look, and who to speak to as you get older, if a concern arises, or if you have any questions about your health.

You're given a manual for your car. Why isn't there a manual for your body?

Is this something that I need to continue doing annually?

As noted above, the goal is to not only identify potential health issues before they arise, it's to give you some control over your healthcare. Once you've completed the program, you don't repeat it. After the program, we're here for you to access repeat bloodwork, coordinate specialty tests, answer your questions, and provide any support you may need.

Do you provide primary care services?

No, we do not provide primary care services. "Healthcare" in the classic sense doesn't have much to do with health. Modern medicine is about what to do when things go wrong.

Is there a fee for this service?

Yes. Please refer to this page for details on pricing. We are a physician run program and will provide an invoice for HSA reimbursement.

Can I pay for certain offerings and decline others?

Absolutely. Although our hope is that everyone takes part in the entire program, we understand that some individuals may not want to nor do they want to purchase certain items. We want to make things as accessible as possible for people of all standing and therefore allow you to choose what you'd like to have done.

Do you offer telehalth services?

Yes, we offer telehealth services for clients who prefer or require remote consultations.

We can work with you on something that appeals to your schedule. Our items can be shipped directly to your home.

Is the cost of testing included in the price?

After much debate, we have decided that the cost of tests beyond blood tests are not included. We have formed relationships with reputable testing facilities to help you schedule the tests that are appropriate for you and have developed testing programs with them. This also allows flexibility in scheduling and a choice of locations for convenience.

What blood tests are included?

Our comprehensive panel consists of over 40 blood biomarkers. We examine things from lipids, inflammatory markers, signs of endocrine dysfunction, and glucose metabolism, vitamins, and liver function. We have selected bloodwork that can actually be targeted with either interventions or further investigations, not useless unactionable, information. A complete list can be found here

Where do I have to go for the blood tests?

Bloodwork is performed through Life Labs. Home or office blood draws are available at extra cost to you ($100) if desired.

Beyond bloodwork, What tests do you recommend?

The core tests that should be performed by everyone include a resting metabolic rate (RMR) test, VO2 max test, grip strength testing and DEXA. There are many more tests that are offered by our testing partners including cognitive testing, range of motion, vision testing, strength/balance assessments, grip testing, and more. However, the core tests really give you a good idea as to where you stand.

Where is testing performed?

We know you're busy and live and work in different areas of the GTA. Unlike other clinics that require many hours of your time over the course of a day for tests that really should be spread out, our testing partners allow you to do the tests on your time and only those that you need or want to get done.  We've come together with some of the best specialty clinics to offer these tests. At-home/condo/gym testing is available for VO2 max and RMR. All that is required is access to a treadmill or exercise bike. The DEXA scan must be performed at a clinic downtown.

*(At-home VO2 testing is available for an extra fee)

How long do I have access to the program?

Ideally, the program is completed in 1-2 months but we understand how scheduling can get in the way therefore we give you as much time as you need to complete.

What is physician messaging?

We understand you may have questions regarding your health and we want to make things as easy as possible. We will be offering asynchronous secure text messaging with a physician 7 days a week in the near future, at additional cost. Not sure if you need to go to a walk-in clinic? Having an issue navigating an obstacle in the health system? Dealing with an injury or illness and just not sure what to do or who to turn to? You now have someone to ask. This service should only be used for non-urgent matters.

Why do all of this?

Modern medicine and healthcare management has failed us. Long waits, lack of primary care access, overworked and understaffed facilities, insufficient mental health services, and complete lack of education around our system are but a few of the almost insurmountable problems we face. Why not empower people to truly take responsibility for their healthcare and give them an avenue to do so? The public is insulated from the dreadful final years of individuals that present to emergency departments on a recurring basis or live out their final years in long term care facilities demented, frail, and unable to do anything for themselves. This is the reality and destination of so many if something isn't done earlier in life. This doesn't include the many lives lost much too early due to coronary artery disease, early onset dementia, cancer, and injuries from potentially preventable accidents. How do you manage something if you don't measure it? If you're unaware it exists?

Why offer a first aid/trauma kit?

Although our focus is prevention, we recognize the importance of being prepared for unexpected emergencies, which is why we're offering advanced first aid kits as a core component of our program. These kits are meticulously curated to include extremely high quality and essential medical supplies that can address a wide range of minor injuries and emergencies, allowing individuals to take immediate and effective action when needed. By equipping our clients with these kits, we aim to enhance their confidence and readiness in handling unforeseen situations, ultimately contributing to their overall safety and well-being.  Don't be the patient that presents to an emergency department with a wound filled with tissue you blow your nose with.
